The evaluation and treatment of an ovarian cyst are among the most common reasons an adolescent patient seeks care from a gynecologic clinician. Whether the cyst is found on routine examination or incidentally on an imaging study, it may provoke anxiety for the patient. Initial care begins with reassuring the patient and her family that the most conservative management approach will be provided.
