The North American Menopause Society responded to a paper, “Health outcomes after stopping conjugated equine estrogens among postmenopausal women with prior hysterectomy: a randomized controlled trial," which was published April 6, 2011, in the Journal of the American Medical Association. A randomized clinical trial found that conjugated equine estrogen (CEE) use was associated with a decreased risk of invasive breast cancer and much more favorable results for coronary heart disease (CHD), all-cause mortality, and several other outcomes in younger than in older women.
