Until recently, there were no approved medications to decrease the frequency of recurrent preterm birth; however, 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17P) was granted approval in 2011. Despite the limitations on the indication for its use, clinicians often encounter high-risk scenarios in which the use of 17P may be considered.
