Nearly 40 Years in Print and Still Going Strong
Vivian M. Dickerson, MD,
FACOG
In a world filled with Internet sound bites and publications that come and
go, we are very proud that The Female Patient has enjoyed continuous publication
for nearly 40 years.
The Female Patient is a trusted, fascinating, must-read source
of evidence-based information about conditions that are exclusive to women,
more prevalent
in women, or are diagnosed or treated differently in women
versus men. Our aim at all times is to help you provide optimal care to your
patients. With 62,000 readers that include 42,000 ObGyns (all of the ObGyns
in the United States), 12,000 primary care physicians, and 8,000 nurse practitioners,
that is a huge responsibility and we take it very seriously.
In print, on our Web site, and at live meetings, we always strive for excellence.
In fact, we believe we offer many unique advantages over other ObGyn publications.
Here are some of the things of which we are especially proud.
- Our Web site contains an extensive online archive of published articles that
are always free and available to everyone.
- We publish independent (non-industry-sponsored) CME articles in each issue,
and these articles and their related CME tests are available online for their
12-month duration.
- We publish Patient Handouts in every issue and archive these online. They
are available as free PDFs to everyone.
- Our email newsletter is free and available to anyone. Register on our Web
site at www.femalepatient.com to receive it.
As Editor-in-Chief, I work hard to achieve our goal of providing “today’s
information for tomorrow’s health care.” Along with our physician
Associate Editors, physician Board Members, and experienced editorial and
graphic art staff, we publish unbiased, concise, and clinically relevant review
articles and practical departments.
Readers would be amazed to know how much happens behind the scenes to bring
you every issue. At our annual board meeting (held wherever that year’s
ACOG meeting is located) we brainstorm potential article topics, and then
follow up throughout the year to identify new trends. We emphasize analysis
of changing trends in all ObGyn issues, newly published clinical guidelines,
landmark randomized trials, contraception and sexuality updates, legal and
practice management news, and new drug and device developments that are relevant
to female patient care. We ask experts in the field to write articles on these
topics, with a focus on the clinical and practical pearls our readers need.
All articles are peer reviewed to maintain the highest quality. We are always
grateful and appreciative of our peer reviewers, who provide insightful and
expert commentary. Articles that are accepted for publication undergo author
revision based on the valuable peer-reviewer comments.
We welcome reader input
on topics you would like to
know more about and welcome feedback on articles we have published. We encourage
you
to let us know your thoughts
by emailing the Editor at
carol.saunders@QHC.com.
We wish all of our readers a healthy, abundant, and Happy New Year.
