A New "Eye" of Visualization

FemSuite LLC recently unveiled a new portable, intravaginal scope (FemEye One) intended for video documentation, visualization, and patient education. Producing digital videos and photos via a USB port connected to a handheld monitor that is also PC compatible, the intravaginal scope provides physicians with sufficient, comprehensive images to make in-office diagnoses. The scope’s disposable protective sheaths eliminate the costly and time-
consuming sterilization process.

New Indication for Oral Contraceptive

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved Berlex, Inc's application for the expanded use of their oral contraceptive (OC), 3 mg drospirenone/20 mcg ethinyl estradiol (Yaz), for the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris in women also desiring contraception. Already approved for the treatment of the physical and emotional symptoms related to premenstrual dysphoric disorder, Berlex's product is the first FDA-approved OC for three distinct indications.

Simplifying Treatment

Shire PLC recently received FDA approval for their oral mesalamine tablets (Lialda) indicated for inducing remission in patients with active, mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis. Available in two dosages, mesalamine 2.4 g/d and 4.8 g/d are the first FDA-approved once-daily oral medications of mesalamine. The high mesalamine content per dose significantly reduces the number of daily tablets previously required for patient treatment.

Improving Prenatal Care

Everett Laboratories, Inc, recently announced the introduction of a new combination vitamin and mineral supplement, plus docahexaenoic acid (DHA), daily-dose caplet system (Vitafol-OB+DHA) for prenatal care. Consisting of 15 essential minerals, the new prenatal supplement contains 1 mg of folic acid and 65 mg of elemental iron. The separate DHA capsule is intended to improve infant visual and nervous system development, and foster maternal heart health and well being.
