Hyperemesis in Pregnancy

Hyperemesis gravidarum—characterized by persistent nausea and vomiting, in contrast to more commonly-occuring "morning sickness"—affects 0.3% to 2% of gravid women. It may lead to dehydration and other maternal and/or fetal risks. This article addresses the prevalence, risks, and diagnosis of hyperemesis, and proposes treatment strategies.

Botulinum Toxin for Restoration of Bladder Control

For patients with overactive bladder who cannot tolerate anticholingerics and/or are reluctant or poor surgical candidates, botulinum neurotoxin A (BoNT-A) may be a welcome alternative. This article describes the mechanism behind BoNT-A and reviews its potential medical applications.
